H&M Angus Farms, Inc. is a family owned operation that was started by Henry Morgan as a 4-H project in 1945 when he bought two Registered Angus heifers to show and keep for cows.
Henry and Mary have eight children (Tom, Tim, Peg, Sue, Ann, Jim, Jan, & Dan) whom all have helped and added to the operation. They showed steers and heifers in 4-H and now some of Henry and Mary's grandchildren are in the ring as well.
In 1967 we had our first annual production sale and have had one every spring since. Our record of 39 consecutive production sales makes a statement about our commitment to the Angus breed and our customers. 2006 marks our 61st year of breeding registered Angus cattle. Our 40th consecutive annual production sale will be March 25, 2006.
Our farm starts with a diversified crop operation that consists of corn, wheat, soybeans, grain sorghum, alfalfa, brome hay, and native grass. We farm about 1300 grain acres and harvest about 18,000 small square bales of alfalfa and hay.
Our livestock operation consists of approximately 150 Registered Angus cows, five owned herd sires several AI sires. Our herd was founded with the principle of pedigree stacking before EPDs were developed. By using the time honored techniques of visual appraisal and pedigree stacking with modern selection tools such as Angus Herd Improvement Records (AHIR) and Expected Progeny Differences (EPDs) we built a cow herd dedicated to raising functional and affordable Registered Angus.
