Our mission is to breed functional and affordable Registered purebred Angus for the commercial cow-calf producer.
That goal is more complex and involved than one sentence can explain. We start with foundation cows that are consistent, balanced, fertile and maternal. The heifers we keep must calve without assistance at two years old and wean an optimal sized calf to rebreed in a timely fashion.
Second, we use AI and owned herd sires that fit the genetic base of our cows and their environment.
Calving ease, frame, muscle and marbling are not single traits that can be "plugged" in to a herd as needed. All of these necessary traits must be bred into the herd in a balanced way that produces genetic progress and consistency, not variation
We have been using the Angus Herd Improvement Record program (AHIR) since its inception in the 1960s to measure and improve the quality and efficiency of our herd. We utilize ratios, EPDs and visual appraisal to hand craft our breeding program to breed cattle for the working rancher.
